Friends of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity - Michigan Alpha Chapter...

Congratulations to Brother Charlie Zeller '13 for enduring rigorous leadership training at the hands of Varsity Football Coach Brady Hoke and a team of US Navy Seals. Zeller and the other seniors on Michigan's Varsity Football squad spent a week in Hoke's leadership training program which culminated with nearly four hours of grueling physical training with Navy SEALs at the Naval Special Warfare Center at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado in Coronado, California.

Media coverage of this intense week included a feature article which made the front page of ESPN.COM. More photos and the entire article can be found by clicking here. - Cheers to Brother Zeller, and GO BLUE.

SigEp Centennial Memory Book - Call to Action

Dear Brothers and Friends of Sigma Phi Epsilon,

Happy birthday...to us! This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Sigma Phi Epsilon's chapter at the University of Michigan, the Michigan Alpha chapter. As one of the many components of our 100-year celebration, we are proud to announce the publication of a memory book illustrating the storied past of our brothers over the last ten decades.

Did you know that:

...The Michigan Alpha Chapter has called seven different places home? Four in the last ten years?
...Up until Lloyd Carr's retirement, the varsity football team gave an annual award named after a Michigan Alpha brother?
...Our brothers have gone on to impressive professional heights, including upper level executives for Major League Baseball, Emmy-award winners, even a regent at the University of Michigan?
...Three of our brothers have gone on to serve as Grand President of the national fraternity?

We are asking all of you to take a moment and send us 2 or 3 photos, a story about the brothers in the photos, and -- if possible -- the names of everyone in them. We have some artifacts going back to the early 20th century to fill in the beginning years, but we need help filling in the rest. Can you take a moment and take advantage of your chance to immortalize some of your college memories?

If you'd like to send by US Mail, please send to:

Michigan Alpha Alumni Association

565 West Quincy, Unit 1708
Chicago, IL 60661

Or if you wish to save time and postage, please scan a high-resolution photo and e-mail to uofmsigep@gmail.com. Alex Prosperi ('10) is the editor of the Wolverine Newsletter and will happily scan your photos and return them back to you. This book can't and won't be great without you; we hope you find a moment to take a trip down memory lane and rummage through your old photos. To date, we've quietly asked for some submissions to gauge initial interest, and the response has been heartwarming. We think you'll enjoy revisiting your college days as much as we've enjoyed seeing what you've found.

Thanks and HFF,

Mark Slattery '06 Featured in LSA Magazine

Another Michigan Alpha alum makes it into the national spotlight. Congrats to Mark and his wife, Jackie! For the full article, click here to see his article in LSA Magazine.

p.s. Don't forget to SAVE THE DATE 10/12-10/14 for the Michigan Alpha Centennial Reunion and House Dedication Alumni Weekend

The 2012 Daytona 500 wasn’t exactly what alumni Mark Slattery (’06) and Jackie Richey (’06) expected. “We waited the whole day, eight hours, under the bleachers while it rained,” says Richey about Sunday, February 26, the scheduled date of the race. She says fans passed the time by making new friends and drinking beer. The event was eventually held the next day at 7 p.m., and included a two-hour fire delay caused by a car crashing into a jet dryer.

But for married couple Slattery and Richey, this year is all about flexibility, spontaneity, and meeting new people, so the Daytona 500 delays didn’t faze them. “We’re both able to handle obstacles better now,” says Slattery, after spending seven months living in an RV. The couple is currently in the middle of a 400-day sports-filled journey across the United States.

February 2012 Wolverine - Michigan Alpha Housing Update!

The Alumni & Volunteer Corporation is proud to announce that Michigan Alpha has purchased a property to serve as the new, permanent on-campus home of Michigan Alpha. The building, a church constructed in 1891, is formerly the home of the Memorial Christian Church of Ann Arbor. It is located at 730 Tappan, on the corner of Hill and Tappan, two blocks from our temporary home at Hill and State. Notable landmarks nearby include Delta Delta Delta sorority, neighboring the north side of the property, and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business across Tappan to the east.

The completed project will be a stunning adaptive reuse of a historic property with architectural design provided by Hobbs & Black Architects of Ann Arbor, MI....
